Birds in Pringle Bay

The current Pringle Bay garden bird list where all the birds can be seen in the residential area and they are fascinating.
Included are 3 of the 6 fynbos endemics which are: Cape Sugarbird, Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Siskin, Cape Rockjumper and Victorin’s Warbler. All of which can be found within 10 km’s of Pringle Bay.
The most famous birders travel from all over the world to come and see it, is the Cape Rockjumper which is Birdlife South Africa’s 2021 bird of the year!
Common garden birds include: Cape Robin-Chat, Cape White-eye, Cape Bulbul, Speckled Pigeon, Malachite and Southern Double-collared Sunbirds, Red-winged Starling, Laughing and Cape Turtle Dove, Cape Prinia, Speckled Mousebird, Yellow Bishop, Cape Weaver, Cape Bunting, Cape Rock Thrush, Familiar Chat, Cape Spurfowl and Helmeted Guineafowl.
Nocturnal birds include: Spotted Thick-knee, Fiery-necked Nightjar and Spotted Eagle Owls. Raptors spotted in the skies include Verreaux,s Eagles, Jackal and Common Buzzards, Rock Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon and White-necked Raven.
We share our shores with the rare conservation success story – the African Black Oystercatcher was considered a Near-threatened breeding endemic, mitigating conservation measures have proved successful and today we can celebrate that these birds are now considered a species of least concern (https://www.birdlife.org.za/bird-of-the-year-2018/).
Other birds spotted on Pringle Bay beach include: Kelp and Hartlaub’s Gulls, Cape and White-breasted Cormorants, Sacred and Hadeda Ibis, Little Egret, Grey Heron, White-breasted Plover, Cape Wagtail and every now and then an African Penguin.
Near the Buffels river estuary, the Malachite, Pied and Giant Kingfisher are present and the odd African Darter and Yellow-billed Ducks are spotted.
A Purple Heron has been seen flying over this area periodically.
